Here’s a great tip for international students at UCT, visitors who love crafts, and anyone else looking for a unique gift for a new South African friend or host: head to the Rondebosch Craft Market, held on the first two Saturdays of each month, for delightful crafts at non-tourist prices.
What: A veritable rainbow of arts, crafts and other handmade goodies, including beautiful old photographs of Cape Town’s past, all kinds of useful wooden kitchen implements, garden decorations, clothing – and, of course, food.
Where: Corner of Campground (M57) and Sandown Roads, Rondebosch | Map
When: 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., 1st and 2nd Saturdays of the month (plus a few extra days – see full schedule below)
Credit cards: Accepted! (In most cases.)
Tip: Don’t miss the pancake (crepe) stall, which offers all manner of fillings, from banana and honey to mince-meat and avocado. Makes a great, inexpensive brunch or lunch.
