The view from this place is absolutely jaw dropping! The Chalet’s are built up on top of the dunes and overlook the entire horizon of the Indian ocean. The roar of the constant surf and salt in the air, makes you feel like your eating oysters all day…
Our chalet was very large with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and comfortably housed the 7 of us without feeling cramped in the slightest. We had 2 huge balconies, which were also quite private even though there was another chalet adjoining ours. We could have used another bathroom since there were only 2 guys and 5 girls…but under normal circumstances i.e: 10 guys, it would have been more than enough. The rooms are nicely done out, and feel like a beach house, funny that.
The layout of the resort is quite unique and they have left all the indigenous fynbos (fine bush) intact. It is very lush and dense like the almond thickets from sleeping beauty (sorta). The chalets are interlinked with hardy board walks beneath the bushes resembling hobbit tunnels. These criss-cross the dunes and end up on the beach, some 40 metres below. The houses are all hidden from the access roads and other homes by the vegetation and make for a very private beach house that feels nice and isolated.
We didn’t use the facilities at all, but the pool looked great and there was some trampolines and a good quality tennis court. This weekend though (long weekend) I suspect the place will be buzzing, I am very glad we had it mostly to ourselves.
Wilderness Dunes is primarily a time-share resort (an award winning gold crown resort at that), but people can rent places from the rental pool. The rates are reasonable at around R2000 a weekend for a 4 Sleeper, and R3000 for a 6 Sleeper. They are all self catering and have daily housekeeping (except Sundays, when it seems the entire town goes to sleep)
