New Orchid Discovered high in the Cape Cederberg Mountains.

Disa Linderiana is the name given to the brand new orchid found near the summit of Sneeuberg (Snow Mountain) at 2000m above sea level. It has been named after orchid expert, Professor Peter Linder.

It was discovered and photographed in 2004, but it has taken until now to positively identify as a new species. This is big news in botany circles (with those wild parties). Most South African orchids only flower after a fire, and there can be 20 year gaps between sightings, but this tiny colorful flower is special in that it doesn’t need a blaze to grow. Strange my vegetable patch never does well after I torch it…
