lotto Muti: The Magic Pen scam

Four men charged with selling fake “magic pens” have been fined R45000 after selling 2500 of them to unwitting victims paying up to R400 each ($50)

The pens being blessed with black magic and augmented with muti herbs, were sold on the pretext that job applications filled out with such would be successful. Competitions such as the lotto would also be a pushover for such a pen. 2500 people responded to newspaper ads to buy the pens and were shocked to find that they were not magic as promised.

The men revealed in court that the pens in fact had no supernatural powers and that they were just ordinary pens. Shocking.

If visiting Cape Town, and someone offers to sell you a Magic Pen, blessed with mixed herbs; politely decline :)
