London’s South Africa House for South Africans

SA Logue went to London recently - and brought back a few bits and pieces of South Africa! See more with our SA in UK tag.

So everyone knows about South Africa House in Trafalgar Square - the place to go if you’re in need of a clerking position (currently advertising!). But what if you’re a South African in need of some consular services? Don’t even consider a visit to the grand old building - you must seek a seperate doorway a few blocks away, which looks like this:

It’s number 15 Whitehall (map), which is round the corner of the junction of Whitehall, Strand and Northumberland. From South Africa House, walk down Trafalgar Square toward the traffic circle, cross Northumberland Ave. looking for a street with a Tesco on one corner and a Royal Bank of Scotland on the other, which is Whitehall, and then wander down Whitehall looking for pained and stressed South African faces, which have just been at the receiving end of some stupendous service from their government.

  • Important note: The consulate no longer accepts walk-ins; you have to make an appointment, either through its website (SouthAfricaHouse.com), or by pitching up and filling out a form. It’s all great fun.
