Durban SkylineDurban has a huge hospitality industry thanks to its status as the South African working family’s preferred holiday destination and it’s role as the busiest port city in Africa.

If you are looking for affordable hotel or lodge accommodation in the vicinity of the Moses Mabhida Stadium where the Durban matches are to be played then you are in luck. The stadium is situated more or less within walking distance of the beachfront which is where the greatest concentration of hotels and guest houses is to be found.

A quick word of warning though for those contemplating this area as their base for catching the main matches. The Durban beachfront and esplanade are both extremely popular with holiday makers, night revelers and bandits. South Africa is a high crime region, and despite the fact that local police will be highly visible all over Durban during the tournament, midnight walks along the beach or drunken sleepovers on a park bench are both a very bad idea.

Check out some of these options…

Hotels

Riverside Hotel in Durban is a clean, functional and affordable option. It has a view of the Moses Mabhida Stadium so clearly it is one of the best placed options. The hotel offers a variety of facilities and amenities with a high standard of restaurants and bar

>>Book the Riverside Hotel now

As might be expected the Durban Hilton offers a higher standard of service than the average and is priced accordingly. The hotel is situated a short walk from both the beach and the local convention center and is well placed for access to the Moses Mabhida Stadium

>>Book the Durban Hilton now

The Protea Hotel Edward has been a feature of the Durban skyline for a very long time, and under the Protea brand a consistent mid to upper range standard can be expected. Great views of the Indian Ocean, great access to the beachfront and of course easy access to the Moses Mabhida Stadium

>>Book the Protea Hotel Edward now

The Durban Beach Hotel is another old faithful of the Durban skyline and is one of the better mid-range options situated along the famous Marine Parade. Great access to the locals beaches and nightlife and not too far from the Moses Mabhida Stadium

>>Book the Beach Hotel now

The Tropicana is a bit of a newcomer and something of a flagship along the Golden Mile. Expect a little bit of a Las Vegas touch with all the trappings of the superb South African hospitality industry

>>Book the Tropicana now

Hostels & Guesthouses

Tekweni Backpackers Lodge was one of the first to open its doors in the new South Africa and all the elements of a highly functional sector of the hospitality industry are here. This is one of the most popular lodges of its kind in Durban and a first choice if you can get a booking.

>>Book Tekweni now

Hippo Hide is a great mid-range backpackers lodge with all the usual offerings of modest services and accommodation, great information and interaction and a travel shop with all the best local and national activities on offer.

>>Book Hippo Hide now

Banana Backpackers Lodge is a local favorite. Hip, lively, safe and clean, it is everything a backpackers lodge should be and more. Centrally located and staffed with locals who are always ready to give advise and ideas.

>>Book Bananas Backpackers now

Surf ‘n Dreams is a newcomer to the vibrant local backpacker market and has a little bit of catching up to do. However beginners enthusiasm makes up for any gaps in service, and certainly the recipe for a great backpackers lodge is all there.

>>Book Surf n’ Dreams now

Feathers Lodge is a typical city lodge with excellent guesthouse style facilities. It is a clean, functional and service orientated downtown hospitality option with access to most of what makes Durban tick.

>>Book the feathers Lodge now

Crescent Guest House is one of the best of a usually well appointed sector of the industry. It is upmarket in flavour and yet small enough to be personable. This is a great mid-town option.
