Amsterdam Guest House Remains in the Pink of Health

A B&B that caters to the gay travel market in Cape Town’s leafy suburb of Oranjezicht has been allowed to keep its “men only” status.

This after a challenge to the Amsterdam Guest House’s exclusionary accommodation policy was brought before South Africa’s Commission for Gender Equality, by - in a move that engenders new degrees of befuddlement in matters of political correctness - an organization purporting to represent gay interests, and going by the name of the GLA, or the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Party.

The GLA, it should be noted, has no online presence, and a distinctly dubious one in plain, old 3-D meatspace, where it has also apparently been known as the One Nation Congress Party, and appears to be the brainchild of one man, Juan Uys, a.k.a. David Baxter.

In the past, the GLA has caused various furores, for instance by claiming to have sent homosexual men to donate blood after lying about their sexual status (a story that later proved untrue), and by getting involved in the “outing” of gay teenagers at high school dances. Spirits are high at the Amsterdam Guest House, meanwhile, after the CGE’s rejection of the GLA’s complaint. Clearly, no one is harmed or prejudiced by the B&B’s existence, and, to go by anecdotal evidence, quite a number of people definitely benefit from it.
