October saw the annual South African AfrikaBurn Festival make its incendiary mark on the Great Karoo at the temporary village of Tankwa Town just outside Tweefontein. Based on the US Burning Man Festival, AfrikaBurn is a creative extravaganza of alternative thought and expression.
AfrikaBurn describes itself as: … a creative arts and freedom of expression festival that aims to build temporary community through collaborative arts projects, in a completely non-commercial environment.
It is nothing less than this. AfrikaBurn is a great addition to the packed South African annual festival calendar and another example of how South Africa leads the continent in cultural and artistic expression.
