Link Love: Project 2010

If you’re looking for one of the most comprehensive sources of 2010 World Cup news on the Web, click over to Project2010, and feast your eyes!

The site is busy, spunky, already very-well filled out, and represents the best of the local (”co.za”) online World Cup offerings. It’s got big-time SA football sponsors like KickOff Magazine, and will be well-positioned to reap a few rewards come the big event.

Keep it up, Project2010!

Check Out this Rainbow Nation

South Africa’s official tourism site, SouthAfrica.info, has just published a mosaic of SA faces, and, in a highly original twist, called it “The Rainbow Nation”.

Link Love: Treasure Africa

Many South African websites center on the Big Cities: Cape Town, Jo’burg and Durban. However, there are dozens of other owns that are deserving of your attention… and no, we’re not just taking about the winelands and areas outside Kruger National Park.

Treasure Africa is one website that strives to put a smaller area in South Africa on tourists’ maps. Owners Retha and Pierre van Staden are passionate about their hamlet of Hout Bay, located 25 minutes southwest of Cape Town’s city center. This is Cool: South Africa Fire Map

If you’ve been to Joburg, you’ll know this to be true: South Africa burns. Many small, random fires dot the landscape, particularly on the highveld (which is, roughly, Gauteng Province and its immediate surrounds), and the country chokes from the smoke of several large, devastating conflagrations each year. Have a look, for instance, at SA Logue’s coverage of the great Table Mountain Fire this January.

The competition is open to all who visit or live in the area - locals and foreigners alike. A half-dozen categories ensure that your pics will find a suitable niche for vying for the judges’ attention. (There’s even a cell phone category - very neat.) It’s requested that all photos be submitted in digital format - on cd or via email.

The competition website, meanwhile, is already filling up with gorgeous photos. A few samples:
