I’m back, after what was the best life experience I could’ve ever asked for! Africa is a beautiful continent, with so much to see, experience and learn! One thing I did learn on my travels is how lucky I am to live in South Africa… this country is the best of two worlds, the first and third world, because there is no other place like South Africa in the rest of Africa.
My travels took me from Dar es Salaam, up to the Samburu Nature Reserve in the North of Kenya and back down through the Masai Mara, the Serengeti, through …
I think it’s safe to come out of hiding now that the dust has settled after the Super 14 final where the Sharks were robbed of the trophy by the Bulls (I’m not a bitter loser at all)! All I can say is that South African rugby was a huge winner on that day! This weekend’s win over the English Roses (58-10) went some way to ease the pain a little.
South Africa was been gripped by a severe cold front this week, with snow even reported in Plettenberg Bay. Durban, who I claim doesn’t experience much of a winter was also very cold, but us Durbanites can comfort ourselves in the fact that it was colder throughout the rest of the country and no snow fell!

I hope everyone in Cape Town is loving the cold, windy and wet weather you’re experiencing at the moment! Here in Durbs the sun is shining and the weather is sweet… makes you want to move you’re dancing feet!
Just one great feature of the Durban winter, it’s still warm and the sun shines pretty much everyday, you’ll still even find people swimming and surfing. Ok, enough of me poking fun at Cape Town, in a previous post Philip mentioned he’d been diving at Sodwana Bay so I thought I’d filled everyone in on the top two diving spots in KZN.

As I’m sure some of you have noticed this Logue is pretty one-sided, so to speak, in the favour of Cape Town. There is nothing wrong with that, but there are other beautiful parts of South Africa that are just as attractive.
Philip has asked me to help provide a balance and let the readers know what is hip, hot and happening in Durban or Durbs to the locals!
South Africa’s only race on the GP circuit went of like a bang on Sunday at the Durban A1 GP.
The street circuit was said to be very challenging, so much so that 14 teams did not finish the race. The South African team driven by Adrian Zaugg crashed twice, once on the first lap then on the same turn on the eighth, putting him out the race. Germany stormed to an eight successive win and breaking records all over the place.
Apart from losing to Germany, the race was a great success for South Africa and puts us in the mood and the spotlight for more such events including of course 2010!!
People commented on the accessibility of the A1 series compared to its big brother F1 counterpart, with spectators allowed to view the cars in the pits and even take photo’s with drivers!

So Durban and the whole of South Africa are well into winter. For us Durbanites it comes as a welcome relief from the heat, but it’s still warm enough for people to go water skiing, enjoy the beach and sit outside after sunset! Talking about water and beaches…
the month of July brings the 8th annual 6-star World Qualifying Series Mr Price Pro to North Beach. The 10 day event starts on 29 June and is just one of the many attractions during the Vodacom Beach Africa festival held along the Golden Mile from 2 to 11 July, which features some of the hottest action in the sea, on the sand and in the air.

Durban is currently gripped by rugby madness as history is about to be made in the Super 14, which is a tri-nation rugby competition between club sides from South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
For the first time in the competition, it’s an all South Africa final as The Sharks (Durban’s pride and joy) prepare to take on The Bulls (or the Blou Bulle to the locals) in Durban! Tickets for the event sold out within minutes and bars and restaurants are fully booked already. The atmosphere and anticipation around Durban is amazing!
Durban itself is probably best known for its “Golden Mile”, a 6km walk along the golden sands, that stretches from the Suncoast Casino and Entertainment World in the north to uShaka Marine World in the south.
Both uShaka Marine World, Africa’s largest marine park and home to an aquarium and dolphinarium, Wet ‘n Wild water park and numerous top class restaurants and shops and Suncoast Casino, a casino complex with a private beach, hotel, restaurants, shops and public entertainment facilities, are fairly new and very popular additions to the mile.

Capetonians can be a snooty bunch and it’s not like we built table mountain ourselves.
There is no small rivalry, between provinces, and although the Western Cape has no real competitor, the other lesser provinces battle it out for second place:) Please send burning assegai’s to: PO BOX 0000.
I may take flak for this, but People from Johannesburg and Durban tend to friendlier and harder working than their blessed cousins in the cape, this may or not stem from the hardships of their environment.
Truth be told I would not like the Logue to be so Cape Town-centric and since I …
The World Cup casts a long shadow over all the rest of sport - including yesterday’s Durban July, which SA Logue confesses to having forgot. Sorry, Durban. C’etait la faut des onze vieux hommes de la France.
The Durban July is the country’s premier horse race, more or less - though the folks over at Cape Town’s J&B Met might have a word to say about that - and was won by the favorite, a certain Eye of the Tiger, amidst much wearing of hats-and-not-much-else.
