Pulling up to this hostel - situated barely 5 steps from the warm Indian Ocean - you might start singing the Eighties’ tune “loveshack, baby, loveshack, loveshack…”
Sugarshack Backpackers has a cozy feel and friendly staff. Owned by the same guy who owns Coffee Shack Backpackers in Coffee Bay and Away With The Fairies in Hogsback, it is a hostel with great possibilities.

Hi-dy Ho everyone! Today we will discover the best hostel in the Ostrich capital of the world, Oudtshoorn! The place is called “Backpackers’ Paradise” - in my opinion, if Oudtshoorn had an ocean instead wide open spaces, you could call this stop Backpackers’ Heaven!

First, the most important aspect at any hostel, the beds. Oh boy the beds… I could go on for pages about those beds, they are big and extra wide, you can literally roll over about three times before falling off, and they come with fluffy comforters and soft pillows.
Greetings and salutations to all my travel buddies out there. Today I am going to be re-exploring Hermanus Backpackers, definitely one of my all time fav spots!

I had heard about this unique backpackers’ somewhere on SA’s Wild Coast while travelling in St. Lucia - but time was catching up with me and I didn’t think I could get down to Coffee Bay.

But as you may know, backpacking trips seldom stick to the original itinerary, and - lo and behold! - within a week the Baz Bus dropped me off at the Shell Ultra city in Umtata for my 3-day stay at Bomvu Paradise Backpackers.
That was in November 2005. I finally left in January 2006!

“What’s up, all you dudes and dudettes out there?” If you are into surfing or sunning yourself on a FANTASTIC beach, do I have news for you! Island Vibe - in Jeffrey’s Bay, Eastern Cape - is the premium backpackers for any surfer or surfer wannabe. With a back gate leading right onto the beach, a beach that stretches as far as the eye can see in both directions, you can live out your dream of riding the next wave all day.

Last weekend’s fundraiser at The Backpack, in aid of the Colin Javens Spinal Injury Trust, was a great success by all accounts! The Goldfish brought their best tunes - you could hardly move, for all their fans - and over R15,000 was raised for the Trust by the Cape Town backpacking community. A certain Georgina was the lucky winner of the 21-day overland trip to Vic Falls.

You can hear the wind blowing through the red, yellow and green-tinted grass. That is how quiet and serene the little village of Mafika-Lisiu in Lesotho is, just over the border of South Africa in the Northern Drakensberg mountains.
Alert! Party with The Goldfish coming up at The Backpack! But first, some background info…

Kilimanjaro ASI

Colin, 25, is a tetraplegic - he lost the use of his arms and legs in a diving accident - but that didn’t stop him from driving overland from Stoke Mandeville Hospital, in Buckinghamshire, UK, to Cape Town earlier this year, in an effort to raise funds for his charity, the Colin Javens Spinal Injury Trust. The Trust gives money to organisations - …
