Three Days, Two Nights at the Cape
Over at the BootsnAll South Africa Travel forum, dopezyn needs to know how to navigate through two nights in the greater Cape region.
Here are my two cents, dopezyn:

Trekker’s Hostel Highlights: Isinkwe Backpackers
Anyone up for a safari? A lot of travelers come to South Africa for one reason only: to see the BIG FIVE! Many head straight for Kruger National Park, the biggest and most famous of the parks in South Africa. But there is a smaller park in KwaZulu Natal province that offers all that Kruger has if not more: Umfolozi / Hluhluwe. Maybe it’s not so well-known because the name doesn’t roll off the tongue, or because the park is hidden among the hills of rural KwaZulu; regardless, if you get a chance to visit you should.

Trekker’s Hostel Highlights: a Fond Farewell to Wildside Backpackers, Knysna
How I wish this was a review, rather than a farewell to an awesome stop. Wildside Backpackers was set in the prime spot, literally on the beach. Days were spent relaxing in the sun, snorkeling in the rock pools and surfing the waves.
Unfortunately, it seems that the lease was up and the owners were unable to keep this fabulous place open. Hopefully they will find a new location and start again!

Bavarians Choose The Backpack as Brass Band Base
A traditional German brass band recently made Cape Town a stop on its grand tour of the seven continents - its mission: to foster new love for the oompah, complete with lederhosen! - and chose The Backpack as its home for the duration.

Trekker’s Hostel Highlights: Sani Lodge Backpackers, KwaZulu Natal
Greetings and salutations everyone! In this highlight I am going to chat about a place that is very special to me, Sani Lodge Backpackers in KwaZulu Natal.
Set in the heart of the Southern Drakensberg mountains and just a hop, skip and jump away from Lesotho, this backpackers is a fantastic stop. From the comfy common room with fireplace, kitchen and tons of games, to the outdoor shower and nature trail on the property, there is much to do - and that’s not even mentioning the numerous tours and overnights on offer.

Trekker’s Hostel Highlights: Bib’s International Backpackers, St. Lucia
Bib’s International Hostel is one of those rare places that has a surprise in store around every corner. Take, for instance, the tour of the hostel. After throwing our bags down we were told to meet at reception. Now, every other hostel’s tour consists of a 10-minute speed walk around the property. At Bib’s, it’s a 30-minute bus ride around the WHOLE town of St. Lucia, on KwaZulu Natal’s Elephant Coast, ending at the lagoon to watch the hippos and crocodiles at sunset. This way you know where the banks, stores, restaurants and man-eating beasts are. It’s a fantastic start to the stay.
Book your stay at Bib’s.

A Stitch in Time Does a Lot of Good at The Backpack
The bar at The Backpack is one of the best chill-out spots in Cape Town. It’s well-stocked, has a broad patio and a great vibe - and is the home of the “Vallies Stitch and Bitch” project, which backpackers across South Africa are taking to heart.

Backpacking South Africa at Work
The project is named in comemmoration of The Backpack owner’s mother, Vallie. Hostel guests who belly up to the bar are invited to “stitch” - crochet - a length of yarn into a small square. When they’re done, the squares are collected and eventually knitted together to make blankets for HIV-positive babies.

This Week: Gotta Get to Grahamstown
Grahamstown’s National Arts Festival hits full stride this week - it’s South Africa’s biggest theatre, dance and music extravaganza, which literally takes over the otherwise sleepy little village, and offers endless chances for arts lovers to see what the arts in South Africa are all about.
Gotta get to Grahamstown, in other words! Here’s how:

Trekker’s Hostel Highlights: Inyezane Backpackers, Gingingdlovu, KwaZulu Natal
Mud, mud, glorious mud!
For some reason - probably going back to my childhood - I have always had a love of playing in mud. So when my friends were trying to convince me to join them at a tiny hostel in the middle of Kwazulu Natal noted for its mud baths, it only took a fateful split-second to agree!
