Hi Ben,
Just discovered you! We are coming to SA in September and not sure if we should stay north of Jo’burg then drive to Blyde River Canyon or fly to Cape Town?
What is the weather like then? I’m guessing it’s better up north?
Many thanks, Jenny.

Jenny, if you have to choose between destinations, then you’re fortunately spoiled for choice. September is a wonderful time for a visit to both the Cape and Mpumalanga Provine/Blyde River. The last month of “bad” winter weather in Cape Town is usually August; the following months are usually fine and spring-like. In Mpumalanga, meanwhile, September foliage should still be fairly low-density (making the animals in Kruger National Park easier to see), and the temperatures nowhere near their hottest.

For me, the Blyde River Canyon and Kruger Park have a slight edge over Cape Town in September, by virtue of the fact that Kruger is once-in-a-lifetime experience, and September is a splendid time for a trip there. First choice, of course, would be both!
