The Lookout Deck has an appropriate name - there is plenty to watch in the busy harbor, from fisherman bringing in their catch, to playful seals, to entertaining “coon” troupes.
It is also host to a number of birds, so “look out” if they’re flocking around you.
My lunch consisted of the line fish of the day - cape salmon. The meat was a little tough for my tastes, and there were large dark areas I picked around.
I also tried the orange and chili calamari. It was an unusual dish - make sure you’re a huge fan of calamari before ordering a plate of it.
Service was relatively attentive.
The Lookout Deck is worth trying, albeit more for the atmosphere than the food.

Myself and a friend ate here three times during our recent visit to Hout Bay and were thoroughly spoilt by the staff. We watched seals playing a few metres away from our table on the verandah during one visit. The food is lovely and extremely good value.
