Following a series of muggings on the greater Table Mountain National Park - which were mostly concentrated on popular trails in the city bowl and Atlantic Seaboard - the park has enhanced its security, with a contingent of forty new guards set to get quite fit on their daily foot patrols.
I’ve never had a problem on the mountain myself, and think that the local media tends to sensationalize the incidents (how many thousands of people go up the mountain each day - and there is what, maybe one mugging a month?), but the guards are welcome nonetheless.
