Midmar Liquors is that rare, precious thing in Cape Town - a bottle store that’s open on Sundays. It has never exactly been determined what special quality separates those bottle stores that open on Sundays from those that, in compliance with the law, do not - but whether it’s rank defiance, a few judiciously-directed backhanders or genuine official permission, long live Midmar and its (very few) partners in extended-hours booze purveying!

• Midmar’s Sunday hours: 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
• Hours the rest of the week: M-F 8 a.m.-8 p.m., Sat 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
