The mountainside above Cape Town’s world-renowned Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden was ablaze last night, but the fire was contained by firefighters and water-bombing helicopters before it could pose a threat either to the garden or to the ancient fynbos forest that surrounds it. Arson is the suspected cause.
