Further Insight & Opinion
The Golden Acre Shopping Centre represents the dregs of mall shopping in Cape Town, with cheap clothes, cheap food and a cheap feel. Backpackers who feel disheartened by the prices elsewhere can easily pick up a few pieces here to throw away after a couple of washings (which is about how long they’d last…).

The shopping centre is most notable for its large underground component and the dubious honor of being the oldest mall to blow your bucks in in SA.

Located across from both the train and bus stations, the mall is easy to reach and a popular place to kill a few hours before heading out of town. It’s said to be less than safe after 5pm, however.

Anchor stores include Truworths, Shoprite and Pep. There are also a number of bank branches and/or ATMs. Nearby shopping includes St. George’s Mall (a much-pleasanter, pedestrian open-air street) and Greenmarket Square.

Francois, you stumped me. Couldn’t find building plans of the Golden Acre anywhere. Looks like you’ll have to go there to find your answer; here’s a map:

Head for the corner of Strand & Adderly. Judging by the grey area on the map, I’m guessing the GA is L-shaped!

Another suggestion: have you tried Google Earth?
