Spotted! The Western Cape Provincial Government building, towering over its much prettier neighbor, the St. George’s Cathedral.

Where is it? At the junction of Wale and Burg Sts., Cape Town CBD | Map

What is it? It’s the head office of the Western Cape’s government – the site of the provincial administration.

Who’s inside? Western Cape Premier Ebrahim Rasool, for one.

Why would I ever go there? I can’t think of the first reason, to be frank. But a good tip for visitors is that a walk through the building – that is, via the road that proceeds underneath its high arches – makes for a great shortcut between St. George’s Mall and Long Street.

What’s nearby? St. George’s Mall and Cathedral, Greenmarket Square, the Company’s Gardens, and the Cape High Court.
