A traditional German brass band recently made Cape Town a stop on its grand tour of the seven continents - its mission: to foster new love for the oompah, complete with lederhosen! - and chose The Backpack as its home for the duration.
The band performed at the local German School in Tamboerskloof, made a guest appearance at the popular Paulaner Brauhaus restaurant at the V&A Waterfront, and - most intriguing of all - swapped notes in a jam session with The Backpack’s drumming master, Eddy (see picture). It’s not known how many djembes the band took back with them to Germany, but they certainly must have learned a few new beats!
